“The title of the work is Vox Femina, the voice of a woman. The audience is close to the heart of Vox Femina, says Nurmela. “It has been really fascinating to pick up things from dance, texts and music that I can bring out in stage design so that the viewer can experience a stronger connection to the themes of the work,” says visual artist Saara Nurmi. As a quartet, it is as if we are composing a new work in which music is one of the four elements, ”describes Gothóni, who works as the 2nd violin conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. There are many intersections in this project for playing chamber music: we see each other without looking, we hear without listening, and we react to each other’s movements by sensing. “The experience of playing vionine changes completely when the starting point is no longer just music but also movement, body and visuals. With an interdisciplinary approach, the working group seeks to explore topics in a diverse and audience-relevant way. We hope that through our work we can increase interest in these themes to some extent, ”reflects the playwright Liisa Vilkkumaa. Often, speech turns to appearance, although it would be much more important for the development of our self-knowledge and empathy to understand the meanings of corporeality more deeply. “The importance of the body and bodily experiences is discussed relatively little in the public. Vox Femina is an installation-like stage work and research project of a women’s life based on themes such as empathy and self-understanding, dialogue, encounter, and the importance of bodily experience in our lives. The process has been really inspiring and it has forced us to learn new ways of working. “The fact that we have been able to exchange ideas with the working group during this exceptional time has taken us all forward. Implementing performing arts in virtual form is really interesting and it opens up new possibilities for implementing performing arts in the future as well, ” says Nurmela.ĭuring thois Spring, Vox Femina's working group has prepared a multdisciplinary performance work, partly creating on remotely becaause of the pandemic, which has contributed to shaping working methods and influencing the progress of the process. “During this pandemic, the collaboration with the Mexican Festival is exceptional and awesome. This has been an excellent collaboration, ”says Mireya Bernal. I admire the work of Maria, Ilana, Saara and Liisa, as well as the documentary photographer Jaakko Rajala. "I am very excited about the project and grateful to the entire Working Group.
